Dr. Mark Evered, President and Chancelor of University of the Fraser Valley spoke today at the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce luncheon. Dr. Evered reminded us of the significant impact that our local University has on the region. Not only does it provide a direct economic impact which Dr. Evered estimated at half a billion dollars, but also it provides professional training for many of our employees in our businesses and services. Dr. Evered also mentioned the fact that the University brings research and academic expertise to the community.

There are many more impacts that the University has, but I am probably the most excited about the potential impacts UFV will have in the coming years. Dr. Evered expressed the strategic priorities of the University to be to provide students with the best undergraduate education in Canada, and be a leader of social, cultural, economic, and environmentally-responsible development in the Fraser Valley. That includes upgrading our transit system, providing a center of excellence for agriculture and likely a number of other priorities that are near and dear to CFSF’s strategic priorities.

It’s refreshing to see the University looking to become a catalyst for the growth and development of our community. We look forward to building and developing our partnership with the University of the Fraser Valley in order to achieve the vision, leadership and passion that we share with Dr. Evered and the board of directors at the University of the Fraser Valley.

Paul J. Henderson – Chilliwack Times – September 28, 2010

Like most day cares, Diana Weston’s new operation will likely be loud, messy and a little chaotic.

As for nap time, that might be a little tricky to enforce since Weston’s charges will be of the four-legged variety.

Like a true entrepreneur, she saw a glaring commercial absence in the community and decided to fill it.
